Nvidia’s RTX 5050 benchmarks make the new $249 GPU look like a better version of the 4060

After months of rumors and leaks, Nvidia finally launched the RTX 5050 yesterday. The company announced it through a post on their website, which gave us a closer look at what this card offers. While Nvidia may still go on to release Super versions of its 50-series cards in the future, the RTX 5050 completes the current lineup.
RTX 5050 benchmarks reveal 4060-level performance
Even though it's a budget card and utilizes GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR7, the RTX 5050's first official benchmarks look very promising. In fact, they make it seem like a serious upgrade over some older cards. Nvidia shared some of these benchmarks in their announcement blog, where they compared the RTX 5050 to the RTX 3050. That makes sense, since there isn't a desktop version of the RTX 4050 to compare it to directly.
According to Nvidia's own tests, the RTX 5050 is 60% faster on average in normal performance compared to the RTX 3050. However, when you add the latest DLSS 4 to the picture, the RTX 5050 can deliver up to 4 times more performance in certain games compared to the 3050. This is how good the latest DLSS technology is. And things get even more interesting when you compare it to the RTX 4060.
Based on some of our testing, the RTX 4060 could deliver native 88 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra settings. But according to Nvidia's first-party benchmarks, the RTX 5050 delivers over 160 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p with High settings, Ray Tracing, and DLSS quality mode enabled with 4x frame gen, which is a huge difference.

Of course, it's important to point out that Nvidia's benchmarks mostly highlight performance with DLSS enabled, which makes for a stark difference to our native benchmarks. We still don't fully know how the card performs without DLSS in a wide range of games, which will be important for gamers who play older titles or games that don't fully support Nvidia's latest upscaling technology. But still, for a budget card, the RTX 5050 performs very well.

According to the chart below, the one thing we do know is that the RTX 5050 without DLSS is on the same level as the RTX 4060 (also without DLSS), which seems to paint a picture that the 5050 is essentially the 4060 but with support for DLSS 4.

In any case, the RTX 5050 will be released in the second half of July 2025 with a starting price of $249. However, do keep in mind that third-party models usually cost more than the MSRP, so you may have to prepare to spend around or over $300 on the card.
