Fans desperately awaiting any new crumb about The Elder Scrolls series might have a reason to celebrate at last. A new rumor says that Bethesda plans to reveal an official remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion very soon.
With no sign of The Elder Scrolls VI, many fans of the series have turned to modding the older games to spend more time in the land of Tamriel. Now it seems there will be an official method for players to be immersed in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using modern graphics and technology.
Bethesda is reportedly working on an Oblivion remaster
According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Bethesda is working on a remaster of Oblivion, which will be revealed sometime between April 21 and April 28. This follows on the heels of another reliable leaker called NateTheHate, who said that a new version of Oblivion will be announced before June 2025.

The leaks also suggested that the remake will use the modern Unreal Engine 5, and will address several longstanding bugs and problems that have long been part of the experience of playing Bethesda games. It is difficult to imagine a Bethesda game not plagued with bugs and glitches, however.
If accurate, then the official version will be going head-to-head with the Skyblivion fan mod, which uses the Skyrim engine to reimagine and improve the experience of Oblivion somewhat. However, Skyrim was released back in 2011, so its engine is showing its age now, despite efforts by fans to keep everything updated.
On top of that, the Skyblivion release date is only “aiming for a release in 2025,” which suggests (to us) that it’s coming later in the year, if anything. This means the official remake could overshadow it by launching first. Some fans are clamoring for Oblivion's predecessor, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, to also get the remake treatment, but there has not been a whisper of this happening.
Until there is official word on the matter, all fans can do is hope. Or perhaps install some mods on Skyrim.
