The integration of upscaling and frame generation into the software for graphics cards has been a revelation for PC gaming. The development of this technology has meant huge performance gains have been possible, and now it is easier for indie game developers to take advantage of it.

For the moment, part it has been massive AAA titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Black Myth Wukong that have taken the most advantage of Nvidia's DLSS technology. The latest Unreal Engine 5 plugin, however, makes the process easier and quicker, putting the tech within reach for smaller indie developers and creators.

Unreal Engine gets DLSS 4 Plugin

The Unreal Engine plugin is available for all versions of Unreal Engine between versions 5.2 and 5.5. It has been designed to integrate Multi Frame Generation, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, Reflex Low Latency, and Image Scaling libraries into a single package.

This plugin will make it easier for developers to support and integrate the features of specific Nvidia hardware. Including the newly launched Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series. The plugins are available on the Nvidia DLSS developer website here, or directly via the links below.

XeSS comes to Unity Engine

Unreal Engine is not the only engine getting a new plugin that integrates technology for boosting framerates. Unity Engine developers will now be able to integrate Intel's XeSS technology into their games. Though Intel's Arc graphics cards are stuck in third place in the GPU arms race, more developers utilizing the Intel tech might encourage more consumers to buy an Intel Arc board. Especially if the process of integration is made easy with a plugin.

Naturally, most of the focus is on Nvidia and AMD with its new and upcoming GPU launches. Intel, meanwhile, is yet to officially announce a new GPU following the B580 and B570. Though Unity Engine has declined in popularity after the pricing controversy in 2023, it remains a popular choice for many small developers who might appreciate XeSS.
