Nintendo’s newest console, the Nintendo Switch 2, has gotten off to an amazing start. According to a recent update on Nintendo’s website, the company has already sold more than 5.4 million units of the Switch 2 during its first month on the market.

The data, which was briefly live on Nintendo’s investor relations site, showed a full breakdown of sales by region. The Americas were in the lead, with around 1.8 million units sold. Japan followed closely with 1.47 million units, while Europe came in third with 1.18 million units. The rest of the world made up the remaining 550,000 units. These numbers cover sales from June 5 to June 30, 2025 – very impressive for such a short period of time.

For comparison, the original Nintendo Switch, which launched in March 2017, sold 2.74 million units in its first month. That was considered a strong debut at the time. But now, the Switch 2 has doubled that number, making it one of Nintendo’s most successful console launches ever.

Interestingly, after this information was published online, Nintendo quickly removed it from its website. It’s unclear if the post went up early by mistake or if the company had plans to announce the figures at a later time.

Potential bad news for the price of the original Switch

However, while the Switch 2 is performing extremely well, there’s some news that may not be great for fans of the original Nintendo Switch and its related products. According to Nintendo of Canada, prices for the original Switch models, games, and accessories will soon change in the region.

In a press release shared on Newswire.ca, Nintendo said that “pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products in Canada will change based on market conditions.” This includes the Switch OLED, standard Switch, Switch Lite, physical and digital games, and accessories. Even amiibo figures and Nintendo Switch Online memberships are expected to be affected.

It is not definitively stated whether prices are rising or falling, but it seems more likely that a price hike is coming as the result of recent tariff despites between the U.S. and Canada. This is likely what Nintendo means by “market conditions”. On the bright side, Nintendo made it clear that this price increase does not apply to the Switch 2 or any of its accessories or games. The company said that more details about the price changes will be shared on August 1 through their official Canadian website.
