OpenAI has announced that its Advanced Voice feature is being rolled out to all Plus and Team users within the ChatGPT app. This expansion comes after a period of anticipation and development, during which several enhancements have been made, and not longer after OpenAI unveiled its o1 AI model.

The now widely released feature has plenty of potential, with OpenAI showing off its capabilities in a number of ways. However, we’ve also noticed people online taking to social media to share their experiences with it.

Key additions to Advanced Voice

Here are some of the biggest changes that make Advanced Voice what it is today:

• Custom instructions: Users can now provide tailored instructions to guide the AI’s responses and behavior.
• Memory: The feature now retains context from previous conversations, enabling more natural and engaging interactions.
• Expanded voice options: Five new voices have been added, offering greater diversity and choice.
• Improved accents: The AI’s ability to accurately replicate various accents has been significantly refined.
• Multilingual capabilities: Advanced Voice can now apologize for being late in over 50 languages.

A couple of demonstrations

ChatGPT users with Plus or Team subscriptions have been putting this feature to the test in hilarious, useful, or strange ways. To give you a couple of examples, Aaron Ng demonstrated that Advanced Voice had no trouble responding to a sentence that mixes three different languages at once. Pretty impressive if you ask us. On the other end of the spectrum, Jane Manchun Wong convinced it to talk in an “anime girl” voice.

Not every region has it yet

The availability of Advanced Voice marks a significant step forward for OpenAI and the field of AI-powered voice technology. This feature has the potential to revolutionize various industries, including customer service, content creation, and language learning. As Advanced Voice continues to roll out, is likely that we will see even more sophisticated updates in the future. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out.

While the rollout is currently underway for Plus and Team users, there are certain geographical restrictions. Advanced Voice is not yet available in the EU, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. OpenAI has not provided a timeline for the feature’s availability in these regions.
