Retailer listings for the AMD Radeon AI Pro R9700, the company’s latest workstation graphics card, have just gone live on American retailer Tech-America. The professional GPU, which is the first in the Radeon 9000 series family, is based on the Navi 48 GPU with RDNA 4 architecture. You could liken it to a beefed-up RX 9070 XT, featuring the same number of Stream Processors (4,096), but double the VRAM – a whole 32GB of it.

There is no specific release date for the R700, though it is expected to be available in July. Now that product listings have arrived, albeit out of stock at the time of writing, there’s a decent chance these professional cards are right around the corner. Tech-America lists three variants on its store, including two Sapphire models and one from ASRock.

Three models and a product box for the R9700

PowerColor has added to the confusion by going with the slogan “Unleash the Gaming Power” on the R9700 product box. Maybe AMD should have produced an RX 9080 XT, after all. Previous leaks for what is assumed to be an RX 9080 XT engineering sample featuring 32GB of GDDR7 RAM and 3.7GHz clock speeds would close the gap to Nvidia’s flagship RTX 5090, though we’ve heard little from this development since then.

The R9700 shouldn’t be considered a direct successor to the last-gen Pro W7900, which came with 48GB of memory. It is closer to a follow-up to the Pro W7800, which also came with 32GB. However, considering the W7800 had a launch price of $2,499, these current retailer listings are far below what we’ve come to expect from AMD’s workstation GPUs.

Considering the drastic price difference, there’s a real case for the new Pro card being picked up by gamers as an alternative option, especially with multiple partners producing them.
