PowerColor rep confirms GPU prices will “kick up” next year, and explains the best time to buy
There have been reports of GPU price rises lately, particularly for AMD Radeon cards, as ongoing memory shortages are causing havoc for manufacturers. And now, a representative from PowerColor, one of AMD’s key board partners, has suggested that you should buy a new GPU before the last week of the year – “before prices kick up”.
We’ve also seen reports that manufacturers may have to discontinue their mid to low-end graphics cards, as memory configurations are a large part of the build cost, and RAM price hikes have forced them to re-strategize. With the increasing cost of PC hardware lately, Black Friday sales may present the perfect opportunity to upgrade.
PowerColor says you should buy a new GPU before the last week of the year
In an unusually casual fashion (or perhaps not based on his previous posts and comments), PowerColor’s Steven Sun recently posted on the PowerColor subreddit to briefly discuss GPU pricing this holiday season. He suggests that you “wait until Sunday,” November 23, which seems to be when PowerColor GPU sales begin, as backed up by another recent comment.
Despite the relaxed writing style, u/PowerColorSteven on Reddit is indeed a recognized representative of the company and is active on the social media platform. You’ll often find him responding to consumers’ queries, and the user is marked as a legit account in several AMD, GPU, or PC hardware-focused subreddits.
There has yet to be any confirmation of a GPU price hike from AMD, officially, though everything seems to be pointing in that direction. If you are in the market for an upgrade, then it makes sense to pay close attention to the best Black Friday GPU deals this year.
