Retroid teases new Pocket Nova handheld with OLED screen for retro 4:3 gaming “coming soon”
Table of Contents
Retroid has just teased a new handheld on the way. It’s called the Retroid Pocket Nova, fitted with a 4:3 OLED screen, though little else has been revealed about it just yet. All we know is that it’s “Coming soon” and looks to arrive as an alternative to the Retroid Pocket Mini, which is another 4:3 OLED handheld, fitted with the Snapdragon 865 chip and 6GB RAM.
The news comes shortly after Retroid announced the return of its flagship Pocket 6 handheld with 12GB RAM – this memory option was previously discontinued due to ongoing memory shortages. With the newly teased Pocket Nova, we may have to expect a system with a much more modest RAM and storage spec, given the current situation with shortages.
Retroid Pocket Nova teaser & estimated specs
Announced on Retroid’s official Discord server (and the brand’s other social media accounts) today, the Retroid Pocket Nova features a ‘modern OLED’ panel and classic 4:3 aspect ratio, making it ideal for a wide catalog of retro games designed for older handhelds such as the Game Boy series, and even the Nintendo DS.

Retroid’s Chris Covers also offered some more clues during a discussion on the Retroid Discord. He says it will “consist of only 3DS [style] stick nubs” and will not have “inline buttons,” which commonly refers to side-by-side shoulder buttons designed to keep the design slim, rather than being positioned behind each other. He also says there will be multiple color options.
