The brand-new ROG Xbox Ally is a collaboration between ASUS ROG and Microsoft, but neither of their storefronts has the flagship X model in stock. They’ve essentially updated the existing ROG Ally handhelds with Xbox branding, new Xbox-focused features, Ryzen Z2 hardware, and a more comfortable design with controller-style grips.

Following a few weeks in its pre-order phase, the new Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X were finally released on October 16 for $599.99 and $999.99, respectively.

You can buy the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X from a range of retailers, and the flagship model has proven to be a hit. We figured it would be based on reviews that went live earlier this week, leaving the cheaper non-X model in a losing battle when pitted against the Steam Deck or original ROG Ally devices when it comes to value for money.

For reference, the non-X model is still in stock at all three retailers – but it’s the flagship that’s getting all the attention.

The popularity, or perhaps limited stock levels, of the ROG Xbox Ally X is probably the reason why we’ve yet to find it on Amazon. You’ll find the non-X model on there, but that is temporarily out of stock, too. So, if you’re looking to grab one of these new Xbox handhelds right now, especially the Ally X, get yourself over to Best Buy.

Anyone with a Windows handheld can mimic the Xbox Ally experience to an extent by installing the Xbox full screen experience. This is exclusive to the Xbox handhelds for the time being, but an early version can be downloaded if you’re a Windows Insider. It’s one of the best features on these new models, essentially splitting the device into ‘Xbox mode’ and ‘Desktop mode’ – much like how Valve does it on the Steam Deck. The Xbox full screen experience also helps free up resources for gaming by deferring unwanted Windows processes.
