Rumor has it, Switch 2 is getting a price hike this year, despite Nintendo recently dismissing the idea
Ongoing memory shortages have made it extremely difficult for PC builders to upgrade or build new systems. The cost of RAM, SSDs, and GPUs has skyrocketed over the past few months, mainly because a large portion of the memory supply is being redirected toward AI data centers. Consumers are now paying much more for components, and it looks like Nintendo could be the next company forced to adjust pricing.
A couple of weeks ago, reports revealed that Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said the company was in discussions with suppliers to ensure a stable supply of components. At the time, he noted that recent shortages had not significantly impacted hardware profitability. He also said Nintendo would continue monitoring the situation and hinted that if prices continued to rise throughout 2026, changes could be made.
Nintendo Switch 2 price changes being considered?
Now, a new report from Bloomberg suggests those changes may already be under consideration. According to people familiar with the company’s plans, Nintendo is contemplating raising the price of the Switch 2 in 2026. The report specifically mentions that the Switch 2 contributed to increased storage demand in 2025 and that price adjustments are being discussed internally. Nintendo reportedly declined to comment.

At the time of writing, there is no confirmed timeline for when a potential price hike could happen. It could happen later this year, or even within the next few weeks. It’s also worth noting that Sony is reportedly reconsidering its next-generation strategy. The same report claims the company may push the PS6 release to 2028 or even 2029 instead of 2027 due to the same memory and storage shortages affecting the industry.
If the memory crisis continues through 2026, price hikes and shortages across gaming hardware may become more common – even the Steam Deck OLED is out of stock as a result. For now, Switch 2 buyers may want to keep a close eye on official announcements, as the current price might not stay in place for long.
