To kick off this year’s Computex, AMD announced the worldwide release date for the RX 9070 GRE, a cut-down version of the RX 9070 that originally launched as a China-exclusive GPU last year. People may be left wondering just who it is designed for, as performance falls slightly behind the RX 9070, while offering 4GB less VRAM – but without a truly significant price drop.

Global launch arrived on June 1, and we’re starting to see that sales stats are pretty lackluster right now. As expected, it’s far from a blockbuster launch hit by stock sell-outs and swarmed by scalpers. At US retailers, we can see the GRE model starting at around $549.99, while you can pick up the 16GB RX 9070 for ~$50 extra. The flagship RX 9070 XT remains hundreds more.

RX 9070 GRE sales so far after its worldwide release

The RX 9070 GRE certainly doesn’t feature in Amazon’s GPU best sellers right now, and it’s difficult to know just how many are being sold. On the flipside, popular German retailer Mindfactory is a good spot to understand the popularity of hardware in the region, as the store explicitly lists how many units have been sold. Right now, it seems no GRE models have been sold.

As 3DCenter points out, no RX 9070 GRE cards have flown off the shelves. At the time of writing, the top-selling RX 9070 on the store has shifted 410 units since launch in March 2025. At Mindfactory, the cheapest GRE card sits at €559, while the regular RX 9070 starts at €599.

Sales numbers haven’t even appeared below RX 9070 GRE models at Mindfactory

There is indeed an ‘OK’ price drop between the two versions, but perhaps it’s not enough. The 12GB of VRAM in the GRE card may be a dealbreaker for some, especially at a time when modern AAA games are becoming much more memory-intensive, and certainly since you can get a 16GB version of the RX 9060 XT for much cheaper.

The RX 9070 GRE is in an awkward spot. AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 wasn’t much of a popular choice, especially compared to the RX 9070 XT above it, and a slightly cheaper version with 4GB less VRAM really doesn’t make it any more appealing.
