AMD announced the price of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition last week. At $899, it’s one of AMD’s most expensive consumer CPUs to date, and an early Amazon listing suggests it may climb to nearly $1,000 by the time it becomes available on April 22. It was briefly listed for pre-order yesterday, but it quickly sold out and is now ‘currently unavailable’ ahead of the release date.

On the bright side, alternative retailers such as B&H continue to list the new flagship processor at its intended price. B&H also notes that orders are due to be made available on the day of its release, so we may not see any inflated prices after all. Anyone who snapped up the Amazon pre-order may have already overpaid for the chip – assuming those sales went through.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition appears online ahead of launch

Despite the brief pre-order period on Amazon, the 9950X3D2 Dual Edition isn’t currently purchasable at the three major retailers below. The processor is awaiting its April 22 release date, when it should be available to buy from 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET. Who knows, though, as it may appear again as a pre-order on Amazon, but we wouldn’t count on it.

We don’t tend to see pre-order periods for computer hardware like CPUs or GPUs, as they usually go live on the day and are dished out on a first-come, first-served basis – hence the common day-one rush that sees popular hardware sell out quickly. Although this is more common with graphics cards, we did see it happen with the Ryzen 7 9800XD. As for the new Ryzen 9 chip, we’ll have to see if there’s enough stock available to meet demand on launch day.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D Dual Edition is a technical leap for consumer CPUs. It arrives as the world’s first desktop CPU with dual 3D V-Cache. It packs a massive 192MB of L3 Cache, which is a notable upgrade over the 9950X3D’s 128MB. As a Ryzen 9 X3D chip, it is built for gamers, content creators, game developers, and other intensive tasks such as AI workflows.
