The WWDC 2024 event will start on June 10, and Apple is expected to reveal many new features of the upcoming iOS 18 update, such as custom AI-generated emojis. While Apple hasn’t shared any specific details about the new features, a recent report suggests that Siri will get a major AI upgrade in the next update. Thanks to the upgrade, Siri will be able to directly control functions within your apps, transforming the way you interact with your device.
What’s new for Siri?
According to Bloomberg, Apple is planning to introduce major changes to Siri in iOS 18. The company wants to change how it interacts with the applications installed on your device, and all of this is being done to make things easier for you. At the moment, Siri can only accept a single command at a time. This is what the upgrade is going to change, as you will be able to give it multiple commands simultaneously. From booking an Uber ride to cropping pictures, the upgraded version of Siri will be able to do it all.
For example, you will simply have to simply say, “Siri, write an email to Tom about the meeting, attach the (specific) presentation, and set a reminder to follow up tomorrow.” Once done, Siri will take care of everything without you opening the phone. Similarly, you may be able to request it to book an Uber ride for you by providing details such as the ride type and destination. These are only a few examples of what Siri might be able to do in the future.
Which apps can the new and improved Siri control?
It is important to remember that Siri will initially be able to control only native iOS apps, such as Mail, Notes, and Reminders. However, with time, Apple has plans to expand its control over third-party apps as well. Also, crafting a complex multi-step to-do list within an app might not work as smoothly as expected at the start. But future updates will surely improve the experience.
