Sony seems to be offering some PlayStation Plus members a free 12-month upgrade to PS Plus Premium

A few weeks ago, Sony announced that starting in January 2028, it will no longer release new PlayStation games on physical discs. The decision sparked a wave of backlash from fans, especially those who prefer buying physical copies, collecting games, or care about long-term game preservation. Since then, many PlayStation Plus members have also claimed they canceled their subscriptions in protest. Now, it looks like Sony may be trying to convince at least some of those users to stay by offering a major PlayStation Plus promotion.
A user on the r/PlayStation subreddit recently shared that Sony is offering them a free 12-month upgrade to PlayStation Plus Premium. The screenshot posted by the user shows a 100% discount applied to the annual Premium plan. At first glance, it appears they are still being asked to pay a one-time fee of $26.23, but that amount is not for the full subscription.
Instead, the charge covers the remaining time left in their current PlayStation Plus billing cycle, which was around two weeks. Once that period ends and the renewal date arrives, the user will automatically receive 12 months of PlayStation Plus Premium at no additional cost.

This is one of the biggest PlayStation Plus offers we’ve seen in recent weeks. Earlier, some users reported receiving discounts of up to 50% on a three-month PlayStation Plus Extra subscription. While that was already a solid deal, getting an entire year of the Premium tier for free is on a completely different level.
At the moment, it doesn’t appear that every PlayStation Plus member is receiving this offer. Sony seems to be targeting specific accounts, though the company has not explained how users are being selected. It’s also unclear whether the promotion is being offered only to members who recently canceled their subscriptions or to a wider group of players. If you’re currently subscribed to PlayStation Plus, it may be worth checking your account to see if a similar offer is available.
