Sony’s PS5 Pro enhanced games list is missing one masterpiece
Table of Contents
As we approach the launch of the PS5 Pro, at first glance, it seems like a minor upgrade for existing PlayStation 5 players. The high price, lack of a disc drive (on the console itself), and no stand included makes the price sound expensive, but the list of over fifty games getting benefits from the mid-generation console eases the pain. At least, a little bit.
However, if you’re debating between the PS5 and PS5 Pro, weighing up which one you’ll want to pick up this holiday season, the list of games gives you a great indication of which titles will see a performance boost from the “underclocked 7800 XT“-like experience of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Unfortunately, it’s missing one key game that could really showcase the new console.
PlayStation 5 Pro enhanced games list has a Cyberpunk 2077-sized hole
Considering the success of Cyberpunk 2077 in recent years, and the fact companies like Nvidia typically use it as a major benchmark for graphical comparisons like we saw with DLSS 3, it’s a shock that the sci-fi RPG from the developer behind The Witcher series is missing here. Not only is it disappointing, but it’s a sorely missed opportunity to showcase the power behind the mid-generation upgrade.
For example, the best graphics cards provide Cyberpunk 2077 players on PC the ‘RT Overdrive’ mode. It’s a power, performance, and technical showcase that seemingly cooks GPUs without using Nvidia’s DLSS features, but it’s a highlight reel of what Nvidia’s graphics cards can truly offer. In a similar vein, Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 Pro could’ve been a winning move for not only PlayStation, delivering a playable, beautiful version of the game, but a win for AMD too, proving the company can fight Nvidia, but with a different angle. Especially considering that AMD is not fighting top spot in the flagship GPU race anymore.
While the list of PS5 Pro-enhanced games includes heavy hitters like Dragon’s Dogma 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Hogwarts Legacy, and a slate of PS5 exclusives, the sore lack of Cyberpunk 2077 removes a great benchmarking tool to compare the original PlayStation 5 and the new ‘Pro’ model. Perhaps the differences aren’t drastic enough for CD Projekt Red to deliver a PS5 Pro native version, but it’s a shame that it isn’t part of this list.
Of course, things could change post-launch. PlayStation promises there is “more to follow”, and we imagine a slate of upcoming titles will get the PS5 Pro treatment, but we also believe that the success of the console could see older PS5 titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, offer enhanced versions. Unfortunately, for now, it’s an omission from the variety of PS5 Pro titles that is not only disappointing but a huge missed opportunity for marketing. Plus, the prospect of Sony’s upscaling method, PSSR, may allow for easy comparisons versus the standard PS5.
