Steam Deck and Legion Go S owners get an FPS boost on GeForce Now, thanks to Nvidia’s next-gen upgrade
Table of Contents
Nvidia is giving GeForce Now members something to celebrate. The cloud gaming service is getting a major update as the RTX 5080 is replacing the older RTX 4080 ‘Superpod’ servers for Ultimate members. One of the best uses of GFN is handheld gaming, especially when AAA games are getting too hard to run on devices like the Steam Deck. Valve’s handheld currently offers a smooth 60 FPS stream, but this will now be upgraded to 90 FPS to match the OLED model’s 90Hz.
There’s also good news for owners of the Legion Go S, which will now be able to push up to 120 FPS to match the 120Hz refresh rate on the latest Lenovo handheld. Lenovo released a SteamOS version of the Go S in May this year, and it has proven to be a great alternative to the Windows version. With the service now getting upgraded, it’s a great time to consider GeForce Now.
Steam Deck now gets up to 90 FPS on GeForce Now, Legion Go S gets 120
Nvidia released its GeForce Now app for Steam Deck a few months ago. We soon realized it’s a game-changer for AAA, and since this native app is designed for SteamOS, the newer Legion Go S is also supported. You’ll be able to follow Nvidia’s official installation video here if you’re wondering how to get it working.

One obvious thing to point out is that GeForce Now Ultimate members will also be able to leverage the power of DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation on the new RTX 5080 card. Nvidia claims that 90% of RTX graphics card owners use DLSS in some kind of capacity, and now users can make the most of the latest version on the cloud. When we tested DOOM: The Dark Ages on the GFN app, it easily maintained a 60 FPS stream on our Steam Deck at native resolution – 90 FPS will be a welcome boost.

The new 5080 ‘superpods’ are around 30% faster than the existing 4080 model, says Nvidia, and users can expect a 2.8x FPS increase – or more than 3x faster performance than the PlayStation 5 Pro if you’d prefer a console comparison. Perhaps the best thing is the price. GeForce Now won’t be getting a price rise despite the upgrade to next-gen hardware. Starting in September 2025, you’ll be able to stream RTX 5080-level performance for $19.99 a month.
