Valve’s Steam Deck Verification program has reached another major milestone. The system is designed to tell users how well a game should work on the handheld before they buy or install it. Each game is given a status based on factors such as controller support, readable text, default settings, and whether the game runs properly on Steam Deck.

Back in January, the number of games rated for Steam Deck passed the 25,000 mark. Now, just seven months later, the platform has crossed another major milestone. According to data from SteamDB, 30,026 games (at the time of writing) have a Steam Deck compatibility rating. Out of that total, 8,949 games are rated Verified, while another 21,077 are marked Playable. 6,845 games are marked as Unsupported, meaning they are not considered suitable for the handheld, though we have seen many exceptions.

There are plenty of Steam Deck Verified and Steam Deck Playable titles

For those who don’t know, a Verified game is supposed to provide a great experience on Steam Deck without requiring users to make major changes. It should work properly with the controls, display readable text, and perform as expected using the default configuration. A Playable rating, on the other hand, means the game works, but users may run into some issues. This could include needing to use the touchscreen, manually opening an on-screen keyboard, changing settings, or dealing with smaller compatibility problems. However, most of them can be easily sorted.

As for the Unsupported rating, it means Valve does not consider the game suitable for Steam Deck. This can happen for several reasons, such as incompatible anti-cheat software, unsupported hardware requirements, or major problems that prevent the game from working properly.

It is important to keep in mind that while the verification system is extremely useful, it still has plenty of room for improvement. A green Verified badge does not always guarantee a perfect experience. There have been cases where Verified games suffer from poor performance, visual problems, or other issues that make them less enjoyable on the handheld.

The opposite can also happen. Some games marked Unsupported can actually run reasonably well on Steam Deck, especially when users apply community fixes or adjustments. In some cases, the Unsupported status is caused by a specific issue that may not affect every player.
