Steam Frame unboxing video found in latest Steam client alongside Valve’s official overview & setup guides
If you’re following Valve’s social accounts (subscribed to its YouTube channel in particular), then you may have seen the ‘Official Overview and Quick Start Guide’ videos on the channel for the Steam Machine and Steam Controller. And now, we have our first look at something similar for the upcoming Steam Frame, thanks to data mined from the latest ARM Steam Client update.
Videos shared online show the Steam Frame VR headset being unboxed, along with sign-in and setup processes. They look official and match the style of the previous overview videos; a voice-over also explains what’s going on. It also reveals Valve’s ‘Ergonomic Accessories Kit’ featuring “three comfort-focused attachments” – hand straps, a head strap, and a light blocker.
Steam Frame unboxing & setup leaked ahead of launch
“Steam Frame requires a Steam account to use,” says Valve in its introduction video, talking new users through the process of setting up an account; recommending the Steam Mobile app in particular. Interestingly, you can even scan the QR code visible in your Frame’s lens to sign in via Steam Guard.

Other videos show the headset being unboxed, and generally how to wear it correctly. Valve also shows off the device’s IPD Wheel, located on the top of the headset, which adjusts the spacing between the lenses. This helps provide optimal comfort while ensuring visuals are in focus and sharp enough. Valve also includes a ‘Spacer’ to make it more comfortable for glasses wearers.
More clips shared by @JoshuaWG21 also explain how to set up the wireless adapter, how to pair your devices (whether that’s the Steam Machine or a VR-compatible PC), and the process of installing SteamVR. “VR streaming will automatically utilize the dedicated adapter link or your local Wi-Fi network – or both at the same time, like one supercharged connection,” says Valve. The company also demonstrates the extra comfort provided by the Ergonomic Accessories Kit, and how to install them correctly.
We still don’t have an official date for the Steam Frame launch, but time is quickly running out in Valve’s official summer release window for the new VR headset. Last week, a VR game dev revealed they were confident that the Frame is “just around the corner”. If we were to speculate, maybe we’ll see more at Gamescom this month, taking place between August 26 and August 30.
