With the Steam Winter Sale just around the corner, here’s what to expect
Table of Contents
There are only a couple of weeks left in 2025, but Steam users have one more sales event to enjoy before the year ends. That’s right, the Steam Winter Sale will kick off in a few days, and it will slash the prices of hundreds of games. This will provide an excellent opportunity for those who were unable to grab their favorite games at discounted prices during the Autumn and Summer Sales events.
Representing one of the major annual seasonal events, the Steam Winter Sale is one of the biggest hosted by Valve. Just below, we’ve gone over when the sale will kick off and a list of games we expect (and hope to see) on offer this holiday season.
When will the Steam Winter Sale 2024 start?
According to Steam, the Winter Sale will begin on December 19, 2024. This means there are only three days left (at the time of writing) before you can start enjoying the discounts. The sales event will remain live for around two weeks and conclude on January 2, 2025. So, you’ll have plenty of days to grab whatever you want at a discounted price.
What to expect from the Steam Winter Sale in 2025
Now, let’s talk about the discounts you can expect to see. The Steam Winter Sale is one of the biggest ones of the year, so it slashes the price of almost every game. Based on the discounts we’ve been seeing over the past couple of weeks, you can expect to see some deals on new releases as well. However, the biggest discounts will most likely be on older titles, which were released more than a year ago.
Top 10 games we expect on sale
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- The Last of Us Part I
- Starfield
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- The Witcher 3
- Helldivers 2
- Ready or Not
- Tekken 8
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Dave The Diver
Some of these games are already available at a discounted price on Steam, but we’re expecting the discounts to be slightly better during the Steam Winter Sale. Starfield was available with a 30% discount last year, and we’re expecting the discount to be the same or higher this year. Ready or Not didn’t receive a discount last year, but its price has dropped by 40% during other events. Baldur’s Gate 3 was also on sale last year with a 10% discount, and we’re expecting even more off this year.

For many games, the discounts will likely be the same as the last year. You’ll get to see deals offering up to 95% off, but these will be on games that are years old, such as the Crysis trilogy. For new releases, you can expect to see discounts as big as 10% off. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a new release, is already available at a discount on Steam, and we expect to see that deal continue during the Winter event.
Top 5 games we hope to get a first-time (or rare) discount
We’ve had a couple of big game releases this year, but all of them are currently available at their full prices. However, we’re hoping to see discounts on the following titles during the event.
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Red Dead Redemption
- Stalker 2
Out of the five games mentioned above, only Red Dead Redemption has received a discount so far. This too happened once during the Steam Autumn Sale, where its price got slashed by 20%. While we’re not expecting massive discounts on the remaining four titles, it will be nice to see at least a 5 or 10% discount. You need to also keep an eye on different bundles on Steam, as they’ll help you save more on a collection of games.
