SteamOS Legion Go S is the perfect Steam Deck alternative after dropping to lowest price ever on Amazon
Table of Contents
Early in December, we saw the Lenovo Legion Go S getting a 30% discount on the official US store, and while that discount has since ended, we’ve now spotted a similarly great deal in the UK. If you’re in the market for a new handheld, perhaps as an alternative to the Steam Deck, the 1TB, SteamOS model has dropped to below £430, its lowest price to date.
Many Steam Deck owners have grown to love SteamOS, Valve’s custom Linux-based operating system for its handheld. In fact, SteamOS has proven to be more optimized for gaming performance, and it enjoys continued support with regular updates. The operating system made its debut in a third-party device in the Lenovo Legion Go S, several months after the Windows model was released. One reviewer claimed it is “so much better than the Windows version,” with the benchmarks to back it up.
| Retailer | Model | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon UK | Lenovo Legion Go S, 1TB, SteamOS | £427.97 |
| Currys | Lenovo Legion Go S, 1TB, SteamOS | £449.00 |
| Currys | Lenovo Legion Go S, 512GB, SteamOS | £399.00 |
A good alternative to the Steam Deck?
If you were to pick up a Steam Deck from Valve right now, you have three options. It’s not long since a Black Friday deal dragged the price down for the LCD model, but that offer has since passed. So, at full price, the 256GB LCD Steam Deck is currently £349.00, while the more expensive OLED models are £479.00 and £569.00 for the 512GB and 1TB models, respectively.
Although the Legion Go S doesn’t have an OLED screen, it offers better specs than the Steam Deck overall. It has a larger, 8-inch screen, a newer Ryzen Z2 Go processor, and a 120Hz refresh rate with VRR – the Deck has 60Hz for LCD and 90Hz for OLED. With SteamOS pre-installed, it’s familiar to anyone who’s used a Steam Deck before; the only thing that’s missing for us is the dual-trackpad design. The Legion Go S has just one small trackpad on the right side of the handheld.

Amazon price tracker Camelcamelcamel reveals the price history on the UK site. It initially dropped during Black Friday sales, but as we get close to Christmas, the handheld has plummeted even further. In other words, there’s no better time to buy one if you’re in the UK – and it arrives just in time for Christmas if you’re looking for a gaming gift.
