Steam’s Hardware & Software Survey is our best way of understanding what hardware PC gamers have in their PCs – Steam is by far the biggest and most popular platform, after all. Every month, the survey gets updated with the latest stats, and since July has started, we now have new data to delve into. If you head over to the survey and closely inspect the GPU section, you'll see that the RTX 4060 laptop GPU is once again back on top.
The RTX 4060 laptop GPU is once again in the number one spot
The RTX 4060 laptop GPU’s share has been gradually increasing in the Steam survey since the beginning of this year. In April, it finally managed to reach the top spot, sitting above both the RTX 3060 and the RTX 4060 desktop version (which was the top GPU in March this year). The RTX 3060 dethroned it in May and pushed it to second place, but the card managed to climb by 0.34% and is now in the number one spot again. Essentially, Nvidia’s xx60 series GPUs take turns on the throne.

According to the latest stats, 4.99% of Steam users are currently using a laptop with an RTX 4060. Just below it is the RTX 3060 with a 4.57% share, followed by the RTX 4060 desktop version with a 4.41% share. As shown in the image below, all the top 10 GPUs in the Steam Survey are budget graphics cards, except for the RTX 4070, which is a mid-range option. On top of that, Nvidia is clearly dominating the charts, with AMD GPUs nowhere near the top 10, though some of this can be attributed to how some AMD GPUs may be placed under the generic ‘AMD Radeon Graphics’ label.

The RTX 4060 laptop GPU might seem underpowered on paper, but it's actually great for 1080p gaming. In fact, in some games, it can even push over 60 FPS at 1440p. This is speaking from personal experience with the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, which comes with an RTX 4060 and a 2K display. So far, the card hasn't disappointed once, as it has managed to run every game I've tried smoothly at high settings, including The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Considering how well it performs, it's no surprise that it's currently at the top of the Steam Survey charts.
And on that note, we should point out that the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU has the biggest gains on the chart as it makes its first entry to the survey, currently with 0.47% of the userbase. No doubt that we’ll see this budget laptop climb as the older generations begin to fall out of favor (and it gets more affordable as time passes).
