What we like about this ASUS ROG Strix G18 laptop
RTX 5070 mobile
This laptop features a good middle-of-the-road mobile GPU option from the 50-series, the RTX 5070, which would be one of the best graphics cards for 1080p gaming on a laptop, that’s relatively affordable. It has 4608 CUDA cores, 8GB of GDDR7 memory, a 128-bit bus, and 907Mhz base clock speed, which can be boosted to 1425Mhz. It’s built on Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, which means you’ve got access to DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation, which can assist if you’re looking you’re looking to game at higher resolutions. Its VRAM is also improved, boasting much higher speeds and bandwidth than the previous generation.
Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX

It’s a balanced and powerful offering that’s adept when it comes to gaming, multitasking, and demanding creative or CPU-intensive tasks. It also has a dedicated NPU, making it a good option for those who use AI to optimize workflows.
2.5K resolution display
These laptops boast what ASUS refers to as a Nebuila Display. These screens are mini-LED, have 100% DCI-P3 color, 500 nits of brightness, and have very high refresh rates, too. This one in particular is 240Hz with a 3ms response time, making it great for fast-paced gaming without much in the way of ghosting or blur. It’s also larger than your standard laptop screen, coming in at 18 inches. That’s ideal for productivity, but it’s also great for upping the immersion when gaming, too.

Design features
This lineup delivers the goods when it comes to design, making them some of the most eye-catching gaming laptops on the market. You’ve got an aRGB lightbar that borders the base of the laptop, which also syncs with its keyboard and other ROG peripherals, too. There’s even a Stealth Mode that switches it off for more professional settings.

Considerations before buying
This is no doubt a great laptop by any standards, but considering that the RTX 5070 mobile is better for 1080p gaming than 1440p, you may not need to pay a premium for the 2.5K display if you’re planning on using this just for gaming. This laptop is more of a hybrid-style machine, which would be very good for content creation and gaming, hence the processor and higher resolution, wide color gamut screen. If you’re going for just gaming, you may be better off with an RTX 5060 on an FHD+ screen instead, as this has the same amount of VRAM but will be substantially cheaper.
