After months of waiting, AMD's RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT have finally launched, with the latter being more powerful than the base model. It features more GPU shaders, tensor cores, RT cores, and a higher base and boost clock speed. AMD has set the MSRP for the XT variant at $599, but not all models will stick to that price. In fact, one version of the RX 9070 XT will cost you over $800.
- GPU: Navi 48
- Core: 4096
- VRAM: 16GB GDDR6

One RX 9070 XT model costs over $800
Best Buy has listed several RX 9070 XT models on its website on launch day. Right now, many of them have already sold out. However, Best Buy has a “Notify Me” button that you can use to get an alert when the product comes back in stock. You can also check out our ‘Where to buy Radeon RX 9070 XT & RX 9070‘ page so you don’t miss out on the opportunity of bagging one.
One retailer has already confirmed that they have over 1,000 RX 9070 cards in stock, so we’re hoping there won’t be any major ongoing stock issues like the RTX 50-series cards.
The prices of five different models have been confirmed by Best Buy for a while now. Among them, the most expensive one is the XFX Mercury AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Magnetic Air Edition 16GB, which is listed at $849. On the other hand, the cheapest variant is the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, which costs $599, the same as AMD's recommended price.
Surprisingly, the most expensive RX 9070 XT costs more than the XFX – Speedster 7900 XT, which has 20GB of VRAM – 4GB more than the RX 9070 XT. The 7900 XT also has better memory bandwidth, more RT cores, and more GPU shaders, making it a stronger card overall. Here’s a closer look at their specifications:
RX 7900 XT | RX 9070 XT | |
Memory Size | 20 GB | 16 GB |
Memory Type | GDDR6 | GDDR6 |
Memory Bus | 320 bit | 256 bit |
Bandwidth | 800.0 GB/s | 644.6 GB/s |
Shading Units | 5,376 | 4,096 |
Boost Clock | 2,559 MHz | 3,100 MHz |
RT Cores | 84 | 64 |
As you can see in the table above, the RX 7900 XT offers much better specifications than the 9070 XT. If you’re planning to spend more than $800 on a GPU, the RX 7900 XT seems like a better option. It is a high-end card and currently listed for $829 at Best Buy, which is $20 less than the most expensive RX 9070 XT model. If you care about performance and value for money, the 7900 XT makes more sense.
