Valve launched the Steam Controller in May this year with a $99 price tag. While the unique dual-trackpad gamepad has received plenty of attention since launch, getting one hasn’t been easy due to high demand and long wait times in Valve’s reservation queue system. So if you’ve been planning to get one, you now have a chance to do so without spending a single penny.
SteamDeckHQ has announced a new giveaway where one lucky winner will receive a brand-new, unopened Steam Controller for completely free. According to the team, they have an extra controller and have decided to give it back to their community as a way of thanking readers and supporters.
How to enter the Steam Controller giveaway
Entering the giveaway is simple – it’s hosted through Gleam. Participants can complete several different tasks to earn entries, with each completed action increasing their chances of winning. Some of the available tasks include visiting SteamDeckHQ’s website, checking out its YouTube channel, joining its Discord server, following the team on X and Bluesky, and reposting the giveaway posts on both social media platforms.

The giveaway will remain open for six more days and is scheduled to end on August 3 at 12 PM PT. SteamDeckHQ says it will announce the winner one hour later. The selected winner will be contacted through the email address used to enter the giveaway. If there is no response within 72 hours, another winner will be chosen.
There are a few restrictions to keep in mind before entering. Due to shipping and customs limitations, the giveaway is only available to residents of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. SteamDeckHQ says it hopes to expand future giveaways to more regions, but shipping electronic devices internationally currently makes that difficult.
That said, if you were already hoping to get a Steam Controller, this is an easy opportunity to try your luck before placing a reservation for a future batch. However, do make sure to complete all of the tasks available to increase your chances of winning.
