Valve sent out Steam Frame review samples on its 30th anniversary, says rumor, as launch window narrows

Many fans were hoping Valve would finally reveal the Steam Frame’s price and release date during the company’s 30th anniversary on August 24. However, the anniversary came and went without an announcement. That said, there now appears to be another development that could excite those waiting for the VR headset.
On X, XR developer @ItsGoGoXR posted a short message saying, “Steam Frame review units. That’s the tweet :)” The post was then met with a response from HardwareSteam, an account that regularly tracks Valve’s upcoming and existing hardware. HardwareSteam replies with a partially censored message, though people were quick to suggest it could mean reviewers “have the Steam Frame as of August 24”. This remains speculation, but the Steam Frame launch has been building for a while now.
Steam Frame closer that ever
If that interpretation is correct, it would mean that Steam Frame review units are already in the hands of reviewers, though one reviewer claims they haven’t received anything just yet. If others indeed have, it’s a significant development, as reviews being prepared, of course, indicate that a hardware launch is getting close. People like to suggest around a two-week turnaround, but there’s currently no way of confirming this.

Exactly how long reviewers have had the headset remains unclear. Depending on when the units were shipped, reviews could appear within days or potentially take several weeks. What we do know is that Valve previously said the Steam Frame would launch during summer, so that window is quickly fading, as we near the start of September.
Still, the reported review units add to a growing list of signs that Valve is preparing for launch. The company has continued expanding the Great on Frame section on Steam, adding more games with compatibility ratings for the headset. Valve has also received multiple Steam Frame shipments in recent weeks, while the headset has already passed FCC certification.
With review units reportedly out in the wild, the launch now feels closer than ever. Valve may simply be waiting for the right moment to reveal the remaining details and finally put the Steam Frame on the market.
