“World’s best $549 graphics card” AMD announces RX 9070 matches RTX 5070 price
The AMD Radeon RX 9070 series has finally been officially announced, and it’s good news for PC gaming enthusiasts. AMD Corporate Vice President and GM of Radeon Graphics David McAfee made some bold claims during the announcement livestream in the hopes of tempting more customers over to Team Red.
“The Radeon RX 9000 series was built to deliver everything you need for 4K gaming at a 1440p price point.” McAfee announced, “I’m thrilled to announce the Radeon RX 9070, the world’s best 549 dollar graphics card.”
The $549 price point puts it on a level with the MSRP of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, though most retailers have been selling at far above that price due to limited stock levels. Supply and demand is a harsh mistress.
Many customers will be delighted at this announcement, as it provides a powerful consumer-grade gaming GPU at an affordable price point. AMD has likewise promised “Excellent availability across all markets” when it comes to stock levels. While it remains to be seen if this statement is accurate, it seems that AMD has at least taken note of Nvidia's supply problems and is trying to avoid those pitfalls.
Users took to social media to comment on the announcement. One user on Discord was extremely pleased, saying: “They listened they listened.” Others are waiting to see side-by-side performance figures before making a decision.
With this price point and enough supply to meet demand, AMD is in a good position to strike some blows against Nvidia. Providing that the software and FSR 4 can live up to the hype.
