Here we have one of Epsons smallest Inkjet printers on the market – The WF-110. This compact model is marketed towards those in need of a portable solution, possibly ideal if you have little to no room at home or business travelers who print from mobile. This lightweight model needs very specific circumstances to be recommended but if you fit that niche, this may be the one for you. It’s wireless, features a 1.5″ LCD, and can accommodate a variety of different size paper but its main downfall is speed and lack of versatility.

What We Think

A solid compact printer that has a lot of value to some who need something on the go. As far as home printers go though it is hard to recommend. Despite standard color print outs looking great, this is slow and isn’t very good for photo printing.

Reasons to Buy
  • Compact Inkjet with good overall quality
  • Wireless making it ideal for those on the go
  • Lightweight and easy to transport
  • Supports SD card
Reasons to Avoid
  • Slow print speeds
  • Subpar photo printing
  • High running costs

What’s in the box & initial setup

The setup is as straightforward as any other Wifi printer, there is no real need for the included instructions. The black and tri-color ink cartridges are included giving you that CYMK print. The LCD makes connecting to the wifi a little easier than others but the screen is quite small so some may struggle. The paper feeder flips up and you are good to go but be aware there is no tray for your prints. Whenever you feed in fresh paper it checks to see what the size and type is, something I found handy when switching between standard A4 and photo paper.

Design

The USP of the WF-110 is its compact size, with dimensions of 309‎ x 159 x 61 mm it will fit almost anywhere. At this size, it can easily fit in most bags, tucked away under your car seat, and easily transported. Furthermore, it is also sufficiently light (1.6 kg), making it a highly recommended option for those who need a printer on the road. This printer features a fairly high resolution of 5,760 x 1,440 and utilizes a Micro Piezo print head that delivers fairly good prints for its size.

Another key feature of this printer is its battery pack. The WF-110 can run on mains power or wirelessly – hence why it’s an ideal solution for those on the road. The battery life is nothing special but it is rated for about 50 prints at full charge, which would probably be more than enough to rattle out the odd invoice on your travels. It is worth mentioning that there is an option to buy an external battery for the WF-110 if you need up to 410 additional prints.

Overall, the WF-110 is fairly robust and the hinged lid not only protects the printer a little bit but doubles up as the paper feed tray. The paper capacity is quite low at 20 regular sheets but considering who this is marketed towards it isn’t really a negative. Beneath the “bonnet”, you will find the navigation panel and accompanying display.

Display

The display is a meager 1..5″ but hey it’s a tiny printer. It isn’t the most convenient LCD I’ve seen on a printer and there are no adjustment options but it does its job well enough. It isn’t a touchscreen as it is probably a bit too small for that but the navigation buttons work a lot better than some standard-sized home printers I’ve tested like the ET-2850.

Printing results & speed

Thanks to the high-resolution and pigment-based cartridges the overall printing results came out quite crisp and vibrant. Before I touch on speed, it is worth mentioning that photo printing was lackluster on this model, even for a 4-ink solution but you wouldn’t be buying this for photos anyway. unfortunately, there is a 20-sheet limit in the feeder and there is no auto duplexing, which as a document printer could be an issue for some. While fine for testing, the cartridges are quite small and relatively expensive ( 250 mono / 200 color ) so the running costs are going to be quite high with this.

Speed is this printer’s major issue but for some, the benefit of convenience may outweigh this problem. Rated for a max print speed of 7ppm I found it to be considerably slower with my test documents. For my standard go-to BW document, this took 80 seconds to print three pages, this went up to 100 seconds for the same document in color. Photo printing took a significant amount of time, with a 6×4 print taking 309 seconds and an A5 photo print taking 390 seconds. It is worth pointing out you can expect print times to take nearly twice as long when operating wirelessly.

Is the Epson WF-110 worth it?

Unless you are tight on space at home I would say no, this isn’t worth it. There are many other better options for a home printer on the market, costing similar amounts and saving you more in the long run. If, however, you need a printer while out working, possibly for on-demand invoices, this offers decent value and could be ideal.
