MSI may be best known for its PC gaming hardware, particularly motherboards, graphics cards, and gaming laptops, but the brand is now making a relatively surprising stride into the EV charging market. Two electric vehicle chargers, with three models in total, have launched in the United Kingdom, designed for both consumer and commercial use, starting at £189 in the region. The EV chargers from MSI are available in a portable design (EZgo) or wall-mounted (Max Home Socket).

✓ MSI’s new EV chargers at a glance
  • MSI has launched two EV chargers in the UK: the portable EZgo and the wall-mounted Eco Series, designed for home, workplace and commercial use.
  • The EZgo costs £189 and offers 1.6-3 kW charging, seven built-in safety protections, IP66-rated protection and a three-year warranty.
  • The Eco Series supports 7 kW single-phase and 22 kW three-phase charging, with smart features including app management and automatic vehicle recognition.
  • The Eco Life Max Home Socket (£449) and Eco Premium Max Home Socket (£599) qualify for the UK’s OZEV chargepoint grant scheme, offering eligible applicants up to £500 towards purchase and installation.
  • The Eco Series has a four-year warranty on registration and is available through retailer Argos, while both ranges can be purchased from MSI’s official UK e-shop.

Press release in full

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, 28 October 2026 – MSI EVSE, the electric vehicle supply equipment division of global technology manufacturer MSI, today announced UK availability of a two-product range built on 40 years of global hardware expertise. The portable EZgo delivers UKCA- and CE-certified charging you can take anywhere, with seven built-in protection mechanisms and a three-year warranty behind it. The wall-mounted Eco Series delivers permanent, smart, grant-eligible charging for homes, workplaces and new developments. Together they cover the full journey, from a driver’s first charger to building-wide infrastructure.

“The UK is moving quickly towards zero-emission transport, and drivers and building owners need charging they can trust. A charger lives outdoors, plugged in and often unattended overnight, so we lead with protection. The EZgo has seven built-in safety mechanisms and a three-year warranty behind it. The Eco Series is listed for UK chargepoint grants from day one, which shows our hardware already meets the standard this market expects.”

Kevin Yang, General Manager, MSI UK

Two chargers, one range

The EZgo is the portable charger that built MSI a following among early EV owners. It is UKCA- and CE-certified, rated IP66 against dust and water and IK08 against impact, and adjusts its output from 1.6 kW to 3 kW. On a standard 13 A Type G socket, it adds around 11 miles of range per hour. It plugs into an ordinary outlet, so drivers can charge at home, at work or on the road with no fixed installation, at an MSRP of £189 including VAT.

The Eco Series is the wall-mounted, smart charging range. Home models are managed through the MSI aConnect app. Every unit supports single-phase 7 kW and three-phase 22 kW from the same hardware. Auto Charge vehicle recognition starts a session the moment the cable is plugged in, after a one-time app setup.

Safety built into every charge

A portable charger spends its life outdoors, plugged in and often left running overnight. The EZgo is engineered for exactly that. Seven protection mechanisms run continuously: over temperature, overload, overvoltage, undervoltage, earth fault, leakage and surge protection. If the unit passes 90 degrees Celsius, charging suspends automatically. If input voltage rises more than 20 per cent above the set value or falls more than 20 per cent below it, power is cut. If the earth wire is not detected or is not properly connected, the unit will not supply power at all.

Dual smart temperature control adds a second layer. Heat sensors sit in both the plug and the charger body and monitor temperature in real time. If the unit runs warm, current is reduced automatically so charging continues safely. If temperatures keep climbing, charging stops until they drop. Overheating at the plug is one of the most common failure points in portable charging, and the EZgo is built to manage it before it becomes a fault.

The housing uses high-density, fire-retardant material rated UL 94 V-0. Both the charger body and the cable have been tested to withstand serious compression, including the weight of a vehicle, without damage. The EZgo operates from -30 to 50 degrees Celsius and has passed salt spray testing to IEC 60068-2-11 and ASTM B117.

Three-year warranty, backed by liability cover

Every EZgo carries a full three-year warranty. MSI also holds up to USD 5 million in product liability insurance, covering damage to users or third-party property arising from product faults. The Eco Series carries a four-year warranty, available on registration with the MSI Member Centre. For a buyer weighing a low-cost portable unit against a charger from an established hardware manufacturer, that backing is the difference.

Grant eligible from day one

Two Eco Series models, the Eco Life Max Home Socket and the Eco Premium Max Home Socket, are listed on the UK government register of chargepoints approved for Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) grants. That matters at the point of sale. Flat owners and renters with private off-street parking can claim 75 per cent of the cost to buy and install a socket, up to £500, under the current scheme, which is funded to 31 March 2027. Businesses can access workplace charging support.

Grant funding requires a smart charger from the approved list, fitted by an OZEV authorised installer. That is exactly where the Eco Series sits, which turns a government incentive into a direct reason to choose MSI.

Built for UK homes and sites

Most UK homes run on single-phase supply, and the Eco Series delivers a full 7 kW from a standard connection. Where three-phase power is available, the same unit steps up to 22 kW with no hardware changes. The UK models are socketed Type 2 units, so drivers can use their own cable, and they are rated to run at full power from -30 to 55 degrees Celsius and at altitudes up to 3,000 metres.

Meeting the UK new build and net zero moment

The UK is maintaining its plan to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, with all new cars and vans zero-emission by 2035. Under Part S of the Building Regulations, new homes and buildings with parking must already provide EV charging. For developers and managing agents, the question has shifted from whether to wire a building for EVs to how to deploy chargers across the building, affordably and safely.

For underground and enclosed car parks, materials matter. UL94 V-0 flame-retardant construction self-extinguishes within 10 seconds under abnormal overheating. A built-in 6 mA DC residual current sensor works alongside an external Type A RCD to cut power if leakage is detected, and charging is delayed automatically after a power recovery to protect the supply. With IP55 and IK08 protection and a four-year warranty, the Eco Series answers the safety and risk questions central to any procurement decision.

Pricing and availability

The MSI EZgo is priced at £189 including VAT. The Eco Life Max Home Socket is £449 including VAT and the Eco Premium Max Home Socket is £599 including VAT, before any OZEV grant is applied. Eligible flat owners and renters can claim back 75 per cent of the cost to buy and install an Eco Series socket, up to £500.

The Eco Series is available at Argos. Both the Eco Series and the EZgo are available from the MSI official e-shop. Full product information is at https://uk.msi.com/Landing/eco-ezgo
