Raspberry Pi crumbles under memory shortage pressure, as 16GB models hit by another price hike, up to $80
Table of Contents
This is far from the first time Raspberry Pi hardware has had its pricing adjusted. Back in February, the Raspberry Pi team was forced to raise its prices for the third time since memory shortages began, and now there’s another round of increases to get accustomed to. Although a wider range of memory variants were affected previously, this time around it’s just the 16GB tiers.
Company founder Eben Upton says “a lack of alternative supply for 16GB DRAM,” along with other component shortages, has forced them to rethink the price of its highest-density products. The flagship Raspberry Pi 5 is the worst affected, jumping by a notable $80. The Compute Module 5 (wired and wireless) is also hit by an increase, albeit by just $40 – all changes are now in effect.
Raspberry Pi price changes in November 2026
| Product | Old price | New price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raspberry Pi 5 (16GB) | $305 | $385 | +$80 |
| Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (16GB) | $335 | $375 | +$40 |
| Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (16GB, wireless) | $340 | $380 | +$40 |
Though these increases are unavoidable, we know they are unwelcome news for our customers. We encourage you to make sure youโre not paying for more memory than you need; integrating lower-density variants or earlier Raspberry Pi models into your projects, or making memory optimisations in your applications, are among ways you can ensure you have the memory your use case needs at the lowest possible cost.

Upton also warns of scalpers reselling Raspberry Pi products at inflated prices. He urges customers to stick to Approved Resellers for official pricing. On the bright side, the price of the Raspberry Pi 500+ has managed to stay put, despite the device featuring 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The 500+ was released in September last year, and is an upgraded version of the Raspberry Pi 500 from December 2024.
