How to exit a WhatsApp group

Here’s how you can quickly exit a group in WhatsApp.

Open a group on WhatsApp

First, open WhatsApp, scroll through the chats, and tap on the group you want to exit.

Access the group’s information page

Once you’re inside the group chat, tap on the group name or group icon at the top of the screen. This will open the group information page.

Exit the group

Now, scroll to the bottom of the page, and tap on Exit group. Once done, you will be successfully removed from the group.

Alternatively, you can also tap on the three vertical dots, select more, and tap on Exit group.

Leaving a group chat will remove you from the group and notify participants, and you’ll no longer receive any new messages or notifications from that group. However, the group chat itself will still exist along with all group chat history, so you can rejoin it later if you wish.

How to delete WhatsApp groups

Only group admins have the ability to delete a group chat. If you are not an admin, you will only be able to remove yourself from the group.

Open the group

First, go to WhatsApp and open the group which you wish to delete.

Go to the information page

Now, tap on the group’s name to visit its information page. From here, you need to remove every member until you’re the last one left.

Delete the group

After every member has been removed, you’ll need to exit the group as well. Without doing this, you won’t see an option to delete the group.

Once you’ve removed yourself, go to the information page again, scroll down, and tap on Delete group.

Keep in mind that all the messages and other data in the group will be deleted, so make sure to save everything important before deleting it.
