The minds behind the infamous chatbot, Chat GPT, have launched their newest multimodal model, GPT-4. So, what is GPT-4?
GPT-4 or Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 is a highly anticipated AI model developed by the major technology firm, OpenAI.
This new model is set to replace their extremely popular predecessor GPT-3.5 – the model that currently powers OpenAI’s notorious ChatGPT and other online tools such as Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing.
GPT-4 has already shown to be much more capable and powerful than GPT-3.5, offering brand-new possibilities to OpenAI’s current users.
As the demand grows for large multimodal models, many are already expecting bigger and better things from GPT-4. So, what can we expect from this new release and what can it do?
GPT-4 features
Despite previous rumors suggesting that OpenAI will massively increase the number of parameters in their new models, GPT-4 will be a similar size to GPT-3.
OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has even confirmed this by revealing the firm’s focus on making smaller models perform better. This is a clever move considering the massive cost required to run such large models. For reference, Chat GPT apparently costs up to a whopping $100,000 a day to run!
What else can you expect? Well, GPT-4 will be a multimodal model. According to OpenAI, “GPT-4 can accept a prompt of text and image”. Making this new release the first multimodal GPT model created by the AI firm.
The newly developed model has the capability to interact with images in various ways. For instance, it can generate recipe recommendations based on pictures of ingredients, as well as produce captions and descriptions.
Just like its predecessor, you’ll still be able to communicate with the AI in a conversational manner.
But, GPT-4 is set to take things to the next level. It’s been described as being “more reliable, creative, and able to handle much more nuanced instructions than GPT-3.5”.
This is pretty exciting stuff and its technology is already being implemented in various popular apps on the market. For example, the world-renowned language learning app Duolingo.
