Alienware gaming monitors are seriously appealing as they essentially tick all the boxes, from a design and performance perspective, but boy, do they have a premium price tag at the best of times. With Alienware products, getting an absolutely enormous discount isn’t really the aim of the game, as they’re just not that common in all honesty. So, my personal tactic is hunting them down when they’ve hit their lowest prices, and counting that as the win, and that’s the type of deal this is.

Right now, this Alienware 27-inch, 180Hz gaming monitor is going for its lowest price in 30 days over at Newegg, with an, albeit expected, modest $40 off. That being said, at its current $229.99 price tag, it’s actually pretty affordable considering it’s QHD and 180Hz, and boasts Alienware’s signature and unmistakably futuristic aesthetic.

This is the type of gaming monitor that’s designed with mid-tier 1440p gaming PC builds in mind, and for those who want something a bit more cost-effective, that still delivers when it comes to visual appeal. It has everything you’d need for gaming at high fps, and even has a decent VESA DisplayHDR 400 rating, too, making it pretty good for more cinematic titles, watching content, and more.

What we like about this Alienware 27-inch QHD gaming monitor

High, but not overkill, refresh rate

Coming in at 180Hz, this monitor is a solid pick for most 1440p gaming PCs and is able to accommodate up to 180fps for more competitive gaming. But at 60Hz, lower than your standard 240Hz monitor, it’s a smart pick if you’re looking to actually use what you pay for, rather than spending extra on more headroom that will require a punchier configuration to get your money’s worth.

1ms response time helps keep motion blur low

Pretty standard, but still good, a 1ms response time ensures that the pixel can change color very quickly, which helps reduce motion blur and ghosting. With FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility, it’s also able to reduce stutter and screen tearing, ensuring a smoother gaming experience, even at very high fps.

Sweet spot resolution to size ratio

At 27 inches, QHD looks surprisingly crisp and clear, even while not being 4K. The big win here is that it keeps pixel density high, so you’re essentially getting high-resolution picture quality, but without the added price tag of a 4K monitor or 4K-ready gaming PC.

IPS display for wider viewing angles

They may be ‘entry-level’ in some sense, but IPS panels like these are very strong options if you want a screen that’s clearly visible from wider angles. While that’s not super essential for gaming, where you’re in a fixed position, it is a game-changer if you’re doubling this monitor up as your main screen, have an audience, or are watching something while moving around the room.

Good color and HDR performance for the price

This monitor has 95% DCI-P3 color coverage and a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, which isn’t exactly rare, but it’s still a good indicator that color, contrast, and peak brightness are decent on this monitor. For gaming in HDR, it’s not too shabby, especially at its current price.
