Key features of this Acer Predator Helios 16 AI gaming laptop

RTX 5090 mobile graphics card

The RTX 5090 mobile, as I’m sure you’re aware, is one of the very best graphics cards you can get in a laptop, and a powerhouse for gaming, content creation, and productivity. It has 10,0496 CUDA cores and a huge 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM, which is an 8GB jump from the 4090 mobile. On top of that, it features improved 4th-gen ray tracing cores and powerful 5th-gen tensor cores for a huge leap in AI performance and capabilities. For gaming, this graphics card can handle QHD/ 4K easily with ray tracing at max settings, especially with features like MFG on standby to help enhance perceived fps if needed. For creatives, it’s a top-tier choice for demanding tasks, like working in 3D, and with features like 9th-gen Nvidia Encoders, makes for a very smart choice for professionals looking to improve video quality and optimize workflows, and more.

Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor

This is one of the best CPUs to pair with something like the RTX 5090 mobile, and it is designed for exceptional gaming and multitasking performance. It features 24 cores (8P and 16E) and 24 threads, which makes it adept at handling tasks like streaming, running background applications like Discord, demanding video rendering, and more. Its 5.4GHz boost clock speed and large 36MB L3 cache are also ideal for 1440p/ 4K gaming at high fps, with low frame latency, and despite it being an HX processor, which focuses on all-out performance, it’s surprisingly efficient, allowing for better battery life.

Display

You’ve got a fantastic OLED 16″ display here, which is going to really showcase your games at their best, and also provide excellent color and accuracy for professional creative work, too. It’s WQXGA resolution, which is good for an RTX 5090 laptop if you’re after very high fps gaming on the go, and would prefer 4K when linked to a monitor instead. Coming in at 240Hz, this screen is going to be excellent if you’re playing competitive titles, too.

Storage and RAM

A curious combination here, as you’ve got a massive 64GB of DDR5 paired with a modest-sized 1TB SSD. This amount of RAM is going to be awesome if you’re planning on playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 at max settings and want a much smoother gaming experience. It’s also going to make using RAM-intensive applications, like Blender and Adobe Premiere Pro, much more responsive, and help with things like 4K timeline scrubbing, for instance. The 1TB SSD can hold a handful of games, but you’ll likely want to upgrade if you’re planning on building a bigger library.

Things to consider

There are RTX 5090 gaming laptops with 4K screens available, if you’re willing to pay a serious premium, but it’s worth asking if they’re really worth it. Personally, I think 4K on a smaller screen is somewhat unnecessary, as WQXGA resolution looks very crisp and clear on 16-inch displays, and they tend to have high refresh rates, too. It also makes a bit more sense as it means that when you’re gaming in 4K and putting the laptop through more demanding loads, you can do so when it’s connected to a monitor and also connected to a power supply, so you can make the most out of the RTX 5090 mobile’s capabilities without worrying about the huge drain on battery life.
