Since the Z890 chipset was released just a few months ago, we expected its predecessor, Z790, to see big price cuts this Cyber Monday. Well, the MSI MPG Z790 Edge WiFI is currently discounted on Amazon, and it is undoubtedly one of the best Z790 motherboards you can get in terms of both performance and looks.
The motherboard is off by 20%, which is about $48 in savings, so you can now get it for $199.99 instead of the original $248.54 price tag. The overall deduction may not look impressive at first, but the features and performance this board brings to the table make up for it. Below, I will briefly go over what this motherboard offers and its capabilities, so you have a good idea of what you can expect from this deal.

Features and highlights of the MSI MPG Z790 Edge WiFi
VRM structure: First up, the motherboard has a 16+1+1 VRM design, which gives it enough power to handle and even overclock the flagship processors without running into any reliability or stability issues.
Cooling: To keep such a rock-solid VRM design from thermal throttling, MSI has used an extended heatsink with 7W/mK thermal pads to improve heat transfer. By extended heatsink, I mean there are two separate heatsinks for the VRMs, and they are connected with each other through a single heat pipe. There are also heatsinks for the M.2 SSDs, so you don’t have to invest extra in an SSD with a heatsink.
Memory support: The motherboard can handle its fair share of memory. It supports up to 256GB of DDR5 RAM with clock speeds of over 7200MHz. So, you don’t have to worry about any random crashes when you enable XMP (or manually tune) in your RAM.
Storage: For storage, there are 5x M.2 slots and 7x SATA 6G ports, which is more than enough for most people.
USB ports: The motherboard has a USB 20Gbps Type-C port at the back and a 10Gbps Type-C port at the front, so there are good options for fast connectivity. In total, we get 10x rear ports and 7x front ports.
Design: Lastly, apart from packing an extensive feature set and high-end performance, the silver-white theme of the rear IO cover and heatsinks make it a great candidate for any white PC build.
Is the MSI MPG Z790 Edge WiFi deal good value?
Whether you’re a content creator or a gamer, the 18-phase VRM structure, excellent cooling, and support for five M.2 SSDs make the MSI MPG Z790 Edge WiFi a great all-rounder for all use cases. Plus, it also has great connectivity options, including a 2.5Gbps LAN port with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The only possible downside is that there is no PCIe 5.0 slot for the storage, leaving you with PCIe 4.0. However, while Gen 5 SSDs are currently the fastest, Gen 4 still performs exceptionally well for gaming and most other tasks, so unless having the absolute fastest storage is a dealbreaker, this shouldn’t be a major concern.
We can also check the price history of this motherboard to see if it’s been offered with a bigger discount before. If it has, the current deal might not be the best value, and it could be worth waiting for a better price.
