New RX 9070 Amazon deal salvages a welcome saving for speedy 1440p gaming
Table of Contents
The graphics card market is in a sad state. RTX 5070s are priced at $800, and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB models and AMD’s RX 9070 XT can easily cost $700 or more. Essentially, market pricing has been mauled, and so when a price drop comes around, it’s big news. The non-XT Asus Prime RX 9070 is the bright spark here, somehow falling from $750 to its lowest price since January at $630. It’s above MSRP, but it’s also a $150 saving against its typical Amazon price and better than the alternatives.

Why we’d pick the Asus Prime RX 9070 OC Edition
Fast 1440p gaming
The Non-XT RX 9070 doesn’t have the power of its XT counterpart, but it’s still a 1440p card through and through. You can expect strong 2K performance, and the 9070 can be an entry-level 4K card, too. It doesn’t have the staying power of the XT, but if you’re upgrading from something like an RTX 3070, you’ll notice the clear leap in graphics performance.
Undercuts the RTX 5070
Nvidia’s RTX 5070 is a direct competitor for the RX 9070. That was an issue at MSRP, where the RX 9070 wasn’t cheap enough, but with the 5070 now demanding north of $800, this $630 Asus Prime card is much better value for pure rasterization performance. If you want a 1440p card today, this deal makes sense.

16GB VRAM
The other advantage the RX 9070 has over the RTX 5070 is its healthy supply of VRAM. 16GB versus the 5070’s 12GB is significant, especially at a 4K resolution – and it will give the RX 9070 a bit more future-proofing for future titles too, since it will be able to store more texture and rendering information.
What to consider before you buy
The graphics market is in a poor state when it comes to pricing. This deal is one of the best 1440p gaming deals we’ve seen in some time, with the RX 9070 being a flexible 1440p and 4K GPU. Is it one of the best graphics cards for gaming? It doesn’t make our list for outright performance. But given its new deal price, it clearly sets itself apart from the RTX 5070 and the RX 9070 XT. And if raw gaming performance is what you’re after, and you’re not concerned by DLSS or AI (where Nvidia excels), it’s a top pick.
