New Ryzen 9 9950X deal spotted – AMD’s non-X3D king dips at Amazon
Table of Contents
Before the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9950X3D2, there was but one flagship 9000-Series processor. The Ryzen 9 9950X is a 16-core, 32-thread powerhouse. It delivers strong single- and multi-core performance and can easily support today’s most powerful graphics cards. We spotted its all-time low price on Amazon in June, but a new deal isn’t much more. And as far as drop-in upgrades go, it’s enough for most enthusiasts, especially since it’s now $185 below its list price at $485.
Why we love the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
Multi-core monster
Although there are now two X3D variants above it in the 9000-Series list, the 9950X’s multi-core credentials aren’t to be denied. This 16-core, 32-thread processor is one for the heavy workload users – the animators, editors, coders, who will get the value of the performance on offer. And it has performance in spades, as we saw in our hands-on review of the CPU.
Great for gaming
You wouldn’t buy this CPU simply for gaming. The best option would be the cheaper Ryzen 7 9800X3D. However, it can certainly double up as part of a flexible system. The best GPU for the Ryzen 9 9950X is the RTX 5090, for a pairing that offers professional-level performance for creative and coding needs. But you could also pair it with AMD’s RX 9070 XT, or an RTX 5080, for rapid 4K frame rates.

Supports PBO
Should you want to, you can push the Ryzen 9 9950X even further with AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO). Capable of delivering even more performance, PBO can be used to overclock this processor, but you’ll need to be comfortable doing so. Using PBO will void the CPU’s warranty, and you’ll need a serious all-in-one cooler in place to keep temperatures under control.
What to consider before you buy
This Ryzen 9 9950X deal puts the CPU at its second-lowest price so far. That’s great if you need a high-powered processor for heavy workloads, even if you also want to game. But if you’re building a gaming rig specifically, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be the best option. It’s currently about $60 to $70 cheaper, so the choice is yours. If you do opt for this deal, you’ll want one of the best coolers for the Ryzen 9 9950X. And if you’re considering overclocking, ensure it’s a liquid AIO model.
