What we like about this Alienware AW2524HF gaming monitor
Super-high 500Hz refresh rate for competitive gaming
Of course, the big selling point here is its extreme refresh rate, which allows up to 500fps at FHD. This is utterly overkill for all but the most serious competitive gamers and esports professionals, and designed with high-end gaming PCs in mind.
Competitive sizing that also makes the most out of FHD resolution
This size is ideal if you’re looking to keep everything on screen in full view, and it does make a difference in competitive games, but it’s also a great size to make the most out of FHD resolution. At this size, pixel density is kept high, so if you are playing more cinematic, atmospheric AAA games or using it for watching content, it should still look crisp and clear even while being low resolution.
FreeSync Premium for tear-free gameplay
This is the middle tier of FreeSync, which eliminates screen tearing and stutter, and adds low-framerate compensation into the mix. It’s vital for high refresh gaming monitors geared towards competitive gaming.
Good color coverage makes games pop
This monitor has 99% sRGB color coverage, which means that everything looks vibrant and bright. With most modern AAA competitive titles having a more bombastic aesthetic nowadays, color coverage like this can really bring these to life on screen.
Low motion blur and wide viewing angles with its fast IPS panel
Not only are you getting a 0.5ms response time here, which makes for ultra-low motion blur and ghosting, but since it’s an IPS panel, you’ve got wider viewing angles, too. That’s great if you’re gaming with an audience or teammate.
Should you buy this Alienware gaming monitor?
If you’re looking for something for esports and competitive gaming, then yes, this is well worth going for at its current price. These type sof mnitors are essentially the most expensive FHD displays you can get, so finding one at a 30-day low is always a win in my book.
If you’re looing for something a little more versatile, I’d highly recommend a dual-mode IPS monitor, as these can switch between 4K and FHD, and often have ‘extreme’ refresh rates with the latter.
