Table of Contents
This beefy MSI Katana RTX 5070 gaming laptop has a solid $268 discount at Newegg and has been reduced from $2,233.99 to $1,965.99. Now that may be on the upper-end for an RTX 5070 laptop, but this particular configuration packs a massive 64GB of DDR5 RAM and a huge 4TB SSD, alongside a powerful, high core count, Intel Core i7-14650HX processor. This makes it a bit of a powerhouse for gaming, productivity, and creative workflows, and for under $2,000, it is quite competitively priced, too. Throw a high refresh rate QHD screen, 4-zone RGB keyboard, and WIFI 6E in the mix, and we think you’re getting a lot for your cash with this deal.

Key features of this MSI Katana RTX 5070 gaming laptop
Display
This laptop features a 2560 x 1600 display, which is going to look super crisp due to its smaller 15.6″ sizing. It’s 165Hz, which works well with the RTX 5070 mobile’s target resolution of QHD, and is an excellent option for high fps gaming. On top of that, the screen has 100% DCI-P3 color, which makes it a strong option for creative professionals who need something with excellent color accuracy and a broad color gamut.
RTX 5070 mobile graphics card
This is one of the best graphics cards you can get in a 50-series laptop, and it’s really the sweet spot when it comes to pricing and performance. Designed with QHD gaming in mind and for moderately demanding creative workflows, the 5070 mobile boasts impressive improvements across the board. Notable features include its 4th-gen ray tracing cores, 5th-gen tensor cores, and 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, all of which give it a serious leg up over the previous RTX 4070 mobile, and make for a meaningful generational upgrade. For creatives, you’ve got Nvidia 9th-gen encoders, which improve video quality, exporting times, and more, plus features like Nvidia Broadcast, which are brilliant for content creators.

Intel i7-14650HX processor
This 14th-gen processor is a high-end model witha huge core and thread count, punchy boost clock speed, and large cache, making it a very strong all-rounder for gaming, productivity, and content creation. It features 16 cores (8P and 8E) and 24 threads, which makes it ideal if you’re looking for something to help render video quickly, handle multiple applications at once, stream, and run background applications like Discord while gaming. Its boost clock is 5.2GHz, and it has a 30 MB cache, both of which are great for QHD gaming at high fps with low frame latency. Since it’s an HX model, it’s not designed purely for efficiency and can run hot, so having this plugged in would be the best way to get the most out of its powerhouse performance.
Storage and RAM
You’ve got a massive amount of DDR5 here, coming in at 64GB, which is arguably a little overkill for the RTX 5070, but we’re not complaining. This is going to greatly assist with gaming performance, creative application smoothness and responsiveness, and multitasking, and gives you plenty of headroom for modern AAA game requirements later down the line, too. Its storage is 4TB, which is huge, and basically means that you don’t have to worry about running out of space, even with a huge gaming library.
Things to consider
Most of the time, you can bag an RTX 5070 gaming laptop for around $1,500 to $1,700, so it’s really the SSD and RAM that’s slamming the price of this into the clouds. These are both great, if you’re going to use them, but personally, a 2TB and 32GB DDR5 option would be more than enough for most, and save you some cash to potentially put towards a monitor, or other gear for your setup.
