We’re intent on highlighting any chance for you to save in an inflated graphics card market. And the Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB OC Edition just handed us an opportunity. The powerful 1440p GPU was recently at its full $800 list price, but a new deal has cut the cost, dropping it back to $730. That’s one of its best prices of the year, and it’s a graphics card with a lot to offer the midrange market segment.

Why we like the Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC

Up to 4K gaming for less

We’ve tested the Asus Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC, so we know what it can do. That is, impressive 1440p gaming performance, much better gaming value than the RTX 5070, and a card putting up more of a fight against the RTX 4080 and RTX 5080 than you may expect. This is a graphics card easily capable of fast 1440p gaming, and we’ve also seen it achieve smooth 4K in modern titles.

A healthy amount of VRAM

The RX 9070 XT has a healthy 16GB of VRAM, which is something you don’t get in Nvidia cards unless you’re willing to spend more than $1,000 on the RTX 5070 Ti. And the thing is, VRAM isn’t something that you can add in later. So the RX 9070 XT is in a strong position for accommodating future titles, should they demand more capacity due to, say, more complex textures. The overall lift in VRAM demands in gaming is a subtle trend, but it is happening, and having more memory isn’t a bad thing.

Improved performance with FSR 4

While the RX 9070 XT launched into a world with FSR 3, AMD’s latest answer to Nvidia’s DLSS enhancements is now FSR 4. And FSR 4 is much better, supporting improved AI-powered ray tracing and frame generation across modern titles. That adds extra value to the RX 9070 XT OC, helping it to achieve better 4K frame rates. And it’s an area of performance AMD continues to invest in.

What to consider before you buy

Price is the critical aspect here, because even though the RX 9070 XT OC is better value than Nvidia alternatives, it’s still over $700. Unfortunately, that’s the graphics card market right now, and if you want a 1440p and 4K-capable GPU, then this is definitely the option we’d recommend for pure gaming performance. It’s one of our best graphics cards for gaming, and an excellent all-round pick. The only caveat is that if you want the very best AI upscaling tech, Nvidia still takes the gold.
