What we liked about this 4K TV
Full of AI-powered features
With the Hi-View AI Engine Pro, this 4K TV can analyze every scene in real time and optimize the picture quality based on what you’re watching. It can make adjustments to contrast, color, sharpness, and skin tones to make movies, sports, and everyday content appear more natural. Use AI 4K Upscaler to give your shows and movies, mostly lower-resolution content, more detail so older shows and standard HD streams will look clearer and crisper on the 4K panel. The AI HDR Upscaler can also improve the clarity of compatible SDR content, and the AI Sports Mode can adjust motion and picture settings during live sports. This will save you from continually adjusting settings over and over and also support the TV adapting to whatever you’re watching.

A solid option for fast-paced gaming
The U8QG can offer a pretty damn slick gaming experience with a 165Hz native refresh rate that will make speedy gameplay smoother than most other displays, meaning fast modern games like racers, FPS games, and sports games will have nice, smooth motion to follow plus and to react quickly to. It has the modern HDMI 2.1 standard to let you take advantage of features like AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VRR, and its Game Bar makes it quick and easy to get to the gaming-focused menu system for quick access to settings without having to have a game menu pop up in-game. It’s also well-suited for a gaming PC or other devices, with plenty of headroom for high frame rates.
No compromise on the audio
The impact of sound comes from the integrated 4.1.2-channel audio, comprising numerous speakers, a dedicated subwoofer, and upward-firing drivers. The experience is more spacious than standard TV speakers by itself, with the added height channels of some Dolby Atmos-supported titles. The dedicated subwoofer adds more weight to explosions, film scores, bass-driven music, and similar, while all those other channels work together for a more holistic experience around your position, rather than just straight out of the screen. It’s a big built-in setup to get you partway there before you plug in an additional soundbar or set of speakers.
Great picture quality with QLED mini-LED panel
The 55-inch U8QG features 4K resolution, Quantum Dot color, and Mini-LED Pro backlight technology that work in unison to deliver bright, clear imagery with deep contrast. The Full Array Local Dimming system consists of up to 5,600 dimming zones, which allow different parts of the screen to dim independently so HDR movies and games can retain their darkest details while highlights still shine through. The peak brightness can reach 5,000 nits for supported content to give HDR highlights plenty of punch while the quantum Dot color filter adds an expanded color palette. The support for Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, and other major HDR formats opens up more options for content from different streaming services.
