Prime Day is heading our way, but as usual, I’m running into a load of early deals that are actually pretty tempting. This LG UltraGear monitor popped up on my radar, as it’s now fallen significantly below its list price on Amazon, and is coming in at $1,557.16. Expensive? Yes, but this monitor is an absolute showstopper and worth considering if you want something truly epic for your setup.
This monitor is pretty feature-rich, but here are the most important things you need to know. It’s a massive 45-inch WUHD monitor, with a very steep 800R curve, designed for maximum immersion. Being WUHD, its pixel density is incredibly high, coming in at 125PPI, which means you’re getting crisp visuals, allowing you to see intricate details in-game, read text clearly, and more.

It offers dual mode functionality, too, which allows you to switch between 5K2K 165Hz and WFHD at 330Hz, which adds a level of versatility and is ideal if you’re switching between more cinematic, atmospheric titles and fast-paced competitive games. In terms of picture quality, it’s seriously impressive. It’s an OLED display with 98.5% DCI-P3 color, a 1.5M:1 contrast ratio, and has a Display HDR TrueBlack 400 certification.

High peak brightness
This monitor can reach up to 1300 nits of peak brightness, which is seriously impressive, but not to be confused with ‘typical’ brightness, as peak brightness is often measured on a much smaller area of the monitor. Needless to say, it’s still great, and you can expect very bright highlights when gaming and watching HDR content.
FreeSync Premium Pro
This is basically the top dog of AMD’s adaptive sync technology, and it’s designed to give you ultra smooth gaming performance by eliminating screen tearing, compensating for framerate drops, and reducing lag when gaming in HDR.
0.3ms respinse time
Pretty standard with a premium monitor, but still very good to see, this response time is low enough to dramatically reduce motion blur and ghosting, resulting in a much smoother gaming experience, especially at higher frame rates.
Who’s this monitor for?
At this price point, this is certainly up there with some of the most premium monitors you can get, so this is really only going to make sense if you’ve got the budget and a powerful enough gaming rig to take advantage of this display’s specs and features. I’d say that it’s actually a very good pick if you’re playing racing games, simulators, and AAA open-world titles, or anything where you want as much immersion as possible. As for other uses, it’s going to give you loads of room for multiple windows, and it’s very well suited to video editing, due to its wider format and extra space for various creative app UIs.
Should you buy this monitor now or wait until Prime Day?
The pricing history of this monitor makes it fairly difficult to predict whether it will drop to a lower price or back to its record-low price again. From my years of covering Prime Day and writing about monitors, I often see some of the biggest discounts on ultrawides from brands like LG and Samsung, so I personally wouldn’t rule out that this monitor may dip further next week, which could potentially save you a couple of hundred dollars. Whether it’s worth the wait, that’s up to you, of course, but I’d keep in mind that its ‘full’ price appears to be tracking up, as does its ‘low’ price.
