8BitDo has emerged as one of the leading names in third-party controllers. Its controllers blend retro designs with modern technology and features, making them great options for playing on a modern PC or console, or attaching to a retro machine like the GameCube. Now the company has released a teaser image for a new type of controller.

The image was originally posted on the 8BitDo official Twitter/X account, which showed a very large black plastic device being pulled out of a brown paper envelope. Alongside this image were the words: “Gear up. Made for Pros.” This was accompanied by a statement that suggested those reading should ‘Mark their calendars for May 16 at 8 am PST.

Presumably, this is when 8BitDo plans to officially announce whatever this controller is. Veteran source of gaming industry information Wario64 posted on BlueSky with some further data. Wario64 indicated that the controller would be for Xbox and PC, was 13 x 9 x 2 inches in size, and weighed 3.52 Pounds.

8BitDo controller appears on Amazon

Surprisingly, the controller is already available for pre-order from Amazon, though there are no pictures, and the $99.99 price may be a placeholder. The Amazon listing also says that the item will be released on July 15, 2025.

Speculation on what type of controller it will be has already begun, though the smart money is on it being a leverless fighting game controller. This is based on the size, weight, and the statement of it being ‘For Pros'. Even the image of it being drawn out of an envelope is a clue, as it proves the surface is not disturbed by a joystick.

There is very little other information available, but with the official announcement coming tomorrow, fans won't have long to wait to find out if this new controller is one they want to lay down almost $100 for.
