Peripheral makers 8BitDo have teamed up with XR glasses firm Viture to create a mobile handheld compatible with XR devices. There's even a chance you can get one for free in the prize giveaway.

The name 8BitDo has become fairly well-known in PC gaming peripheral spaces. Though initially recognised as a purveyor of controllers for retro gaming and emulation, 8BitDo has acquired a reputation for quality products. The company has now teamed with Viture to create a mobile gaming controller that is compatible with XR glasses.

New Viture mobile controller features in giveaway

Viture announced on Twitter/X that a few lucky people will be able to get hold of this controller as part of a prize draw. Anyone interested needs to have a Twitter account, then follow both Viture and 8BitDo official accounts, then retweet the giveaway post and tag two friends. They will then be entered into a prize draw, with the winners to be announced in two weeks.

The Viture x 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller strongly resembles many of 8BitDo's other controller designs, with a space in the middle to place a smartphone. The controller has a translucent black shell with customisable buttons and joysticks, and adjustable triggers. Viture says it is “the world’s first” mobile gaming controller to support XR Glasses.

Full specification not yet known

A full list of specifications has not yet been released, so it is not yet known if it is compatible with Android and Apple devices. The Viture XR Glasses appear to connect using something similar to a MagSafe connector cable. The device is also equipped with a USB-C port. It is not yet known if it has rear buttons, though the design similarity to the 8BitDo Ultimate controller suggests that it will.

In addition, Viture is also looking for Beta Testers for the product, and an application form to join the Beta test program is available via Google Forms.
