AMD finally gives FSR Redstone a release date, shortly after adding one of its features to Black Ops 7
Table of Contents
AMD is ready to ‘premiere’ its new suite for machine learning-focused graphics features. FSR Redstone is being premiered on December 10, which means we could be less than a month away from its full launch. A couple of months back, AMD let us know that Redstone was still on track for this year, so Team Red has made time to slot in its release during the holiday season.
It’s worth noting that FSR Redstone is already available in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, but in a limited capacity. The only feature that is implemented so far is Ray Regeneration, which is designed to denoise ray tracing effects at a lower cost than traditional methods. Ray Regeneration promises ‘noise-free’ visuals and an overall higher image quality.
FSR Redstone premieres on December 10
AMD’s SVP and GM of the Computer and Graphics Group, Jack Huynh, has teased FSR Redstone in a post on X. All it reveals is that the new suite of technologies is “premiering December 10th,” so there’s a little more time to wait before we can fully see what it’s capable of. We hope to see a whole host of performance graphs and framerate comparisons.
The technology was initially announced at Computex earlier this year, and comes with four key features:
Source: AMD
- FSR Upscaling:  (Formerly AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution) Reconstructs crisp, high-quality visuals from low-resolution frames.
- FSR Frame Generation: Predicts and inserts new frames between rendered ones, delivering smoother and higher frame rate gaming.
- FSR Ray Regeneration: Infers and restores full-quality ray-traced detail from sparse samples, delivering sharp, noise-free visuals with reduced rendering cost.
- FSR Radiance Caching: Dynamically learns and then predicts how light propagates through a scene, delivering efficient real-time global illumination.
AMD is following in Nvidia’s footsteps by leaning on machine learning for its upscaling and frame generation technology. Just like FSR 4, the FSR Redstone upgrade is exclusive to Radeon RX 9000 series, which is currently headlined by the RX 9070 XT. There have been rumors and leaks that suggest that FSR 4 is coming to the last-gen RX 7000 series, though AMD has yet to officially announce anything or pass comment.
