AMD fans are currently looking forward to the launch of the new 9000X3D CPUs, the 9950X3D and 9900X3D. Both were announced during CES 2025 and offer powerful specs. The company did not share an exact release date for them but has confirmed that they’ll launch sometime in Q1 this year. However, while we wait for the new high-end processors to arrive, AMD has quietly released a budget-friendly option without making a big announcement.

Ryzen 5 7400F is the latest CPU in the 7000 series lineup

AMD's new processor, the Ryzen 5 7400F, is the newest addition to the Ryzen 7000 series lineup. According to the official product page of the CPU on AMD’s website, it is built on the Zen 4 architecture and offers 6 cores paired with 12 threads. On top of that, while it operates at a base frequency of 3.7 GHz, it can be boosted up to 4.7 GHz.

Aside from that, it has an L3 cache of 32 MB and a low TDP of 65W, meaning you won’t need a massive PSU for it. Lower TDP also means it will generate less heat under load, so you’ll be fine with a cheaper air cooler, like the Wraith Stealth cooler which comes included with the CPU. Or, you could opt for a third-party model like the APNX AP1-V.

At the moment, AMD has not revealed the price for the Ryzen 5 7400F. However, considering it offers lower specifications than its older sibling, the 7500F, which was released last year and can be found on Newegg for $162, it might be priced around $20 or $30 lower. So, we estimate that you might be able to get it for anywhere between $135 and $150. Aside from that, AMD hasn't shared any performance benchmarks for the new CPU. However, judging from its specifications, it should be a good choice for basic tasks and light gaming.

In any case, while AMD is currently focusing on high-end gaming CPUs like the 9000X3D lineup, it’s clear that they haven’t forgotten about budget-conscious builders as they continue to expand their lineup of affordable processors.
