AMD just launched desktop APUs for the Ryzen AI 400 series, none of them featuring its top Radeon iGPU

After launching the Ryzen AI 400 series at CES 2026, AMD has now expanded the series to cover AM5 laptops and desktops. AMD was keen to tell everyone the new AI chips are better than Intel’s Panther Lake, and its expansion at MWC Barcelona this week is yet another reason for people to get excited about the series. The new additions include a range of desktop ‘G’ APUs, though none feature AMD’s current flagship integrated graphics solution, the Radeon 890M.
The new Ryzen AI 400G and 400GE chips max out at Radeon 860M, leaving some room for improvement in the graphics department, with the 870M, 880M, and 890M all sitting above it in the code-named Strix Point processor family. The series utilizes RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture, rather than the latest RDNA 4 found in desktop GPUs such as the RX 9070 XT.
AMD Ryzen AI 400 & AI PRO 400 series get desktop processors
There are two tiers of these new code-named ‘Gorgon Point’ AI processors, all fitted with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI workflows. AMD has confirmed new SKUs for both the Ryzen AI 400 and Ryzen AI PRO 400 series. The series offers up to 8 cores/16 threads and is for AMD’s latest AM5 platform, as you’d expect. Desktop systems from OEMs such as HP and Lenovo are expected to be available in Q2 2026 and will be designated as Copilot+ PCs.

Although AMD did not specifically mention non-PRO models in the presentation slides above, it has detailed a full list of specifications for PRO and non-PRO models on its website. These new desktop chips will join existing mobile (laptop) chips first announced by AMD at CES 2026 alongside the Ryzen 7 9850X3D.
