Another week, another sales report for popular German hardware retailer Mindfactory. The report covers motherboard retail sales for week 48 (November 24 – 30). Since this time period includes Black Friday, it gives a clear picture of what people opted for when putting together their new PCs during one of the biggest shopping events of the year.
And according to the latest numbers, AMD motherboards were 10 times more popular than Intel motherboards during the Black Friday period. It’s obvious that the popularity of AMD’s Ryzen CPUs for gaming has led to many consumers opting for Team Red when searching for a compatible motherboard for gaming.

Units Sold
- AMD: 3180 units (90.99%), Average Selling Price: $182
- Intel: 315 units (9.01%), Average Selling Price: $157
Revenue
- AMD: $578,064 (92.13%)
- Intel: $49,377 (7.87%)
By Socket
- AM5: 2750 units (78.7%)
- AM4: 430 units (12.3%)
- LGA 1700: 175 units (5.0%)
- LGA 1851: 140 units (4.0%)
From these numbers, it’s clear that AMD absolutely dominated the Black Friday building season. The AM5 platform, which supports the Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series, made up nearly 80% of all sales alone. Even the older AM4 platform still performed strongly, showing that budget builders continue to appreciate its value.
Meanwhile, Intel struggled to make an impact. Their two current platforms, LGA 1700 and LGA 1851, sold far fewer units. Even the newer LGA 1851 socket sold only 140 motherboards, which is less than half the sales of AMD’s older AM4 boards.

This big difference likely comes down to a few reasons. AMD motherboards and CPUs often offer better value right now, especially with strong deals during Black Friday. Many PC builders also prefer AMD’s upgrade path, since AM5 is expected to be supported for more CPU generations. And finally, the performance of AMD’s X3D chips for gaming outshines Intel’s alternatives.
