AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D is back in stock at Amazon, but the price has risen ahead of 9800X3D launch

Table of Contents
It has been 18 months since the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D launched, solidifying its place as one of the best CPUs for gaming on the market. The chip launched with an MSRP of $449 and has been seen as low as $320 according to price tracking sites such as Camelcamelcamel. However, the price of X3D chips has been rising as of late – and this fan favorite is no exception.
The demand for this X3D CPU has been high for good reason. Just as October kicked off, we noticed that the 7800X3D was often out of stock or priced way higher than usual. This made it much harder to find, and while it is again readily available on major retailers like Amazon, the price has been raised beyond its MSRP, sitting at $478.98 at the time of writing. Earlier in the day, we saw it listed at $499.99.

9800X3D is similarly priced so far
In our Ryzen 7 7800X3D review, we praised its gaming performance and even noted that it is affordable (thanks to its age). Well, since then, things have changed and it could be a result of the impending 9800X3D launch. Retailers are starting to list the first 9000 series X3D chip online, with a higher price tag of $484, so we’re keen to see how the 7800X3D price tag develops as a result of this. Do keep in mind though that AMD has yet to confirm the MSRP of the new processor.
While the 7800X3D will no doubt remain a highly relevant processor, particularly for gaming, the new Zen 5 CPU coming along to take its place might be the better option if you’re buying new. With no deals currently running on the 7000 series model, the 9800X3D could be solid value for money.
They’re both based on AMD’s latest AM5 platform, so there are no compatibility differences between the two. With that in mind, you may want to hold off and buy the newer model instead; its release date is currently predicted for October 25th.
