2025 brings us a new generation of graphics cards for gaming. In fact, Intel kicked things off with the launch of Battlemage GPUs at the end of 2024, but now it’s time to move on to the launch of the RTX 50 series and RX 9000 series from Nvidia and AMD respectively. While Team Green went ahead and fully showcased the 50 series a couple of weeks back at CES, Team Red has been much more under the radar.
As for the RX 9070 and 9070 XT release date, AMD has said to “stay tuned” for an announcement soon. What we do know though is that these new Radeon GPUs will be going on sale in March. That’s a month after Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti cards, which “will be available starting in February” and are expected to rival the new RX 9000 series cards.

New Radeon GPUs will have to wait until March
According to David McAfee, VP & GM of Ryzen CPU and Radeon graphics, Radeon 9000 series cards “go on sale in March” and the fan response to this official update hasn’t been too positive. Considering many rumors placed the release as early as January, it now feels like a long wait for consumers who are desperate to upgrade their GPU. Sure, not everyone needs to upgrade right this second, but it opens up the door for Nvidia to further expand its lead in the GPU market.
Over on Reddit, this thread on r/Radeon shows the immediate reaction from fans and it paints a picture that many people will simply opt for Nvidia. The RTX 5070 is set to provide surprisingly good value for money, especially with Nvidia’s claims that it offers similar performance to the 4090. Yes, this is definitely with some heavy lifting from its new DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation technology, but it remains an impressive feat nonetheless and is certainly a handy piece of marketing.
Current price rumors for the 9070 series, place the XT and non-XT models on each side of Nvidia’s RTX 5070, while the 5070 Ti remains a large step up. With that in mind, the 5070 could prove to be a massively popular GPU. The only thing it doesn’t have going for it is its 12GB of VRAM, which is 4GB less than the two new Radeon cards.
