The Ryzen 9 5900X has been the backbone of AM4 CPUs since its release back in 2020, as it offers a great value-to-performance ratio over the flagship 5950X. This is because the cores in this CPU performed about the same as those in the 5950X, but it costs a bit less. Speaking of cost, you can pick this up for a whopping 61% off, dropping to $220, thanks to an early Prime Day deal.
The 5900X offers 12 cores and 24 threads to chew through basically any workload you throw at it, whether that be multi or single-core – as we mentioned in our 5900X review. This CPU comes from a time when AMD ruled the market in terms of multi-core performance, so you know you’re not getting hot garbage. AM4 has remained inside of support even after the launch of its successor, AM5, and will likely remain supported until 2025 at the least. it wasn’t that long ago that AMD released yet another AM4 CPU, the 5700X3D.

Why you should consider this 5900X early Prime Day deal
There are a few points to highlight that make this one a good CPU deal to pick up this Prime Day:
- High-core count configuration: The 5900X offers a 12-core 24-thread configuration, allowing the CPU to chew through multi-threaded tasks easily.
- AM4 is affordable: AM4 has technically been pushed into obsolescence by AM5, but it remains supported by AMD. This means that motherboards for this platform are cheaper, even at the high end.
- Ryzen 5000 series depends on fast RAM: You can upgrade the performance of your Ryzen 5000 series CPU by getting faster memory. This is because Ryzen 5000 series core speed is faster with quicker available memory.
- Hardware Virtualization: This CPU has virtualization capabilities allowing you to use it to run VMs for a cheap home server.
- 8.3 billion transistors on a 12 nm process equate to good IPC gains over Zen 2: IPC (instructions per clock) increased by up to 19% offering stronger performance per clock cycle.
For $220 this 5600X CPU deal is a steal
The 5900X is a 12-core CPU with a lot to offer those who want to upgrade their AM4 CPU or build a system on the cheap that can serve as a home server or something of that nature. This CPU is compatible with all AM4 motherboards, but you will need a BIOS update to bring some of the older ones up to speed – though we don’t recommend you go lower than the 400 series motherboards.
We normally recommend upgrading to AM5, but nothing can compete with the value that AM4 offers right now. An AM5 motherboard and DDR5 memory would far outweigh the cost of a CPU, motherboard, and memory on AM4 alone. With that being said, however, the performance uplifts would be huge.
